Mission Weavers and Spinners

We are a non profit organization that aims to promote, encourage and improve the artistic and technical development and historical awareness of weaving, spinning and related crafts in our community, Mission, B.C.

Mission Weavers and Spinners guild is located in the Mission-Abbotsford area, which is near the West Coast, and very close to Vancouver, B.C. We are comprise of 19 members, with the guild having been founded in 1995. We have our own studio, which we sublet from the Mission Arts Council at MAGie, the centre for visual and performing arts.

Our purpose:

To promote, encourage and improve the artistic and technical development, and historical awareness of weaving, spinning and related crafts.
To provide an opportunity for the sharing of knowledge, skills and ideas among members.
To emphasize the importance of achieving and maintaining the highest possible standards of excellence in all work.
To educate the community through demonstrations and displays.
To collect literature and other materials related to the art and craft of weaving and spinning, etc. and to make these available to members through the Guild library.
To strive to be self-sustaining.
Mission Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guild makes its home at the Mission Arts Centre in Mission, B.C. The guild uses the top floor of the 1926 year old Arts Council House for its work area and meetings. Presently, our guild has about 30 members who are busy with guild projects, an ongoing one being the Mission Tartan. On April 30 we have invited the Fenn Valley Spin- In participants to drop in at the Arts Centre for refreshments and some of us will join them the next day at Fenn Lodge. On June 5, we will be setting up a booth at the Mission Children’s Festival at Heritage Park. The Guild meeting is the last Monday of the month, from 7-9pm at MAGie, 33529 1st Ave, Mission B.C. on the 3rd floor, entrance on the west outer staircase.
