The
purpose of Portland Handweavers Guild, Inc.
(PHG) is to foster public interest in handweaving
through lectures, instructional workshops, demonstrations,
and exhibitions. PHG sponsors a variety of activities
and events that enable its members to enhance
their skills or share their expertise, including
a grant program, and an annual sale.
Portland Handweavers Guild (PHG) was formally
organized in September of 1945. As a member
guild of Weaving Guilds of Oregon (WeGO) and
the Association of Northwest Weavers’
Guilds (ANWG), we participate in their projects
and take an active part in conference activities
both as a group and as individuals. We celebrated
our 50th anniversary the year prior to Convergence
‘96 when we hosted Handweavers Guild of
America’s international Convergence at
the Convention Center in Portland, Oregon in
July 1996. We celebrated our 60th Anniversary
in 2005.
Most of our members come from within a 50 to
80 mile radius of the Portland (Oregon) Metropolitan
Area. PHG offers education programs, workshops
and study groups to promote weaving and related
fiber arts and to encourage members to achieve
excellence in their work. As a part of membership
services, we receive a monthly newsletter, a
roster and have access to the Guild Library
before monthly meetings and during break time.
The option to order books at varying discounts
plus a small charge for handling fees is also
available. Many opportunities are provided to
participate in Guild sponsored sales, exhibits
and demonstrations.
PHG meets every second Thursday (September
through June) with no meeting in January, from
7:00 - 9:30 p.m. at Multnomah Arts Center, 7688
SW Capitol Hwy, Portland OR. Visitors are welcome.
The business meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. followed
by a guest speaker or another planned activity.
Details on the scheduled speakers and their
topics can be found listed below under the Calendar
of Events or on the ANWG Coming Events .Workshops
are usually held twice a year and are announced
when scheduled. Day meetings are held three
times a year (once in the fall and twice in
the spring) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Because

meetings and the workshops might vary, the details
