Rogue Valley Handweavers Guild

The Rogue Valley Handweavers Guild is one of three guilds in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon.

The purpose of the Guild is to promote an interest in handweaving. Membership is open to anyone upon payment of dues. Annual dues are $25 ($27 for married couples) payable in September, the start of the guild year. Members joining for the first time after January 1 pay one-half the annual rate.

Member benefits include use of the Guild library; use of rental equipment owned by the Guild; ten issues per year of the newsletter, ROGUE ROVINGS; the privilege of selling weaving/spinning -related items at meetings, and participation in study groups. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month, September through May, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 456 W. Pine Street in Central Point.

In the interest of supporting and promoting the fiber arts, RVHG has sponsored awards for weaving and spinning by 4-H students at the County Fairs in Jackson and Josephine counties. Members are also available for weaving and spinning demonstration and instruction for numerous youth organizations and Historical Society events. Beginner weaving classes are offered to the public annually. The guild regularly exhibits members' work at libraries, banks, galleries and fairs.

The Guild administers a "Certificate of Achievement" program, open to members of any southern Oregon guild. This three-level program of weaving requires progressively detailed work to be submitted for evaluation by three anonymous judges. Certificates are presented for successful completion of each level.

In 2003 the Rogue Valley Handweavers Guild celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Junia Graff, who initiated our first organizing meeting in 1952, was also in the first group to receive the Certificate of Excellence Award from the HGA in 1976.
