The
Skagit Valley Weavers' Guild has about 40 members
from Skagit County in Washington state. The
purpose of the guild is to promote the growth
and development of skills in hand weaving as
well as spinning-related fibercrafts, promoting
opportunities to share in activities of related
groups, and to promote awareness of fibercrafts
in the community. Membership is open to any
individual interested in and willing to support
the purposes of the guild. Dues are $20 per
year, which entitle members access to the guild
library and equipment, membership in ANWG, and
to the newsletter which is issued monthly.
Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the second
Monday evening of each month, except July and
August. We meet at the Methodist Chapel on
Allen West Road in Bow, Washington.
Our focus for the 2005-06 year is on twills
and dyeing. We have so many inexperienced weavers
and want to give them good instruction on learning
to weave. We have guest speakers thoughout the
year amd members bring 'show and tell' to each
meeting.
Skagit Valley Guild has welcomed several new
members in the past year and is fortunate to
see those weavers taking responsibility in the
guild. We are proud of our library. We have
a group of mentors able and willing to offer
help to new weavers. We love to have visitors
at our meetings and hope they bring show and
tell. We work to find balance between activities
of interest to new weavers and more experienced
weavers, but we are keeping our emphasis firmly
on weaving.
