I am captivated by two slow, ancient
fiber techniques -- tablet weaving and ply-splitting.
Since 1992, I have taught workshops at many guilds,
regional conferences, and Convergence; written dozens
of articles for fiber magazines; and self-published
several instruction books. My recent work -- inscription
bands with tablet-woven calligraphy and ply-split
baskets made with paper cords -- tends to relate to
my concerns about peace, spirituality, and nature.
Descriptions and photos of my workshops,
as well as descriptions of lectures that I offer,
are on my website. I am most interested in teaching
about structures in tablet weaving (warp twining,
leno, Andean pebble weave, and the 3/1 double-faced
weave) and ply-splitting (plain oblique twining, single-course
oblique twining, and twined linkings), tablet-woven
calligraphy, and ply-split baskets.
I always bring many examples of my work
in both techniques for students to examine, including
ornaments, scarves, jewelry, hats, rugs, and baskets.
After many years of travelling thousands
of miles to teach, I am now most interested in staying
closer to the Pacific time zone. I recently have become
enraptured with permaculture, and don't want to be away
from my garden for very long. For the same reason, winter
is probably the best time for me to travel. I have a
flexible schedule, and welcome all inquiries.
