Association of Northwest Weavers' Guilds

This is the official site of the Association of Northwest Weavers' Guilds (ANWG). ANWG is a non-profit organization supporting the Fiber Arts in the northwest US and western Canada. The purpose of this website is to provide a useful resource to our nearly 100 Member Guilds and the fiber arts community.

WHAT IS ANWG?

ANWG is an association of fiber arts guilds located within the Pacific Northwest United States and Western Canada. ANWG does not have individuals as members but each Member Guild is composed of individuals. Individuals pay dues to their Member Guild and the Member Guild pays dues to ANWG.

ANWG provides services and support to its Member Guilds with the idea that combining resources and providing an economy of scale, services can be provided that would not be possible for the individual guilds to provide on their own.

Each Member Guild appoints an ANWG guild representative and ANWG holds an annual general meeting (AGM) of its representatives. During conference years, the AGM is held in conjunction with the conference and at the conference location. In off-conference years, it is held somewhere within the region.

The primary focus of ANWG and Member Guilds is weaving but also includes spinning, felting and other fiber arts. As with all types of artistic media, technology has played a key role in the growth and expansion of the fiber arts beyond its ancient beginnings.

Weaving is an ancient textile art and craft that involves placing two sets of threads or yarn made of fiber called the warp and weft on the loom and turning them into cloth. This cloth can be plain (in one color or a simple pattern), or it can be woven in decorative or artistic designs, including tapestries. (Source: Wikipedia Free Dictionary)
